The Captives is an action adventure game with real-time souls-like combat and a JRPG-like extensive narrative, with the unique twist that each time you finish a chapter of the game you create a new character, and your old character becomes an NPC in the world.

My role on the game was lead designer, programmer, composer and sound engineer.
As lead designer I had an overview of the entire player's experience in mind. With The Captives my main goal was to provide the player with a ever growing connection between themselves and the characters they created over the course of the game.

As a programmer I was mostly focused on implementing the core combat gameplay loop and the enemy AI that drives the reactionary player skill in The Captvies.
As a composer I had a lot of fun experimenting with different electronic styles and eventually found a hybrid between the nostalgic synths of N64 games and more unconventional rhythmic patters for The Captives.

The Captives was my first time filling the role of Sound Engineer. I had to learn a lot about sound effect layering and sound design in a short period of time for the game's release.
I was pleased to be able to incorporate some of my programming skills, implementing variable reverb and footstep simulations.
